with gaiety,
it greened the hills
with smiles.
It lit my day
with shafts of laughter
and I danced
with the birds,
as bright crystal light
showered the earth
with flowers.
But in the night
of stumbling darkness,
in the blackness
where hopes lie dead,
I shout my anger,
shake my terror
and grope for reason
inside my head.
