They've come in their cars from miles around
to hunt for things to gather and take home
to add to all the other things
they've hunted and gathered over the years
Every shelf, every cupboard, every drawer
is stuffed with their trophies.
They are on their walls, in their windows,
on the floors, and in every room of their homes.
When hunting and gathering
there's no such thing
as a sufficiency because who
knows what might happen tomorrow?
Get what you can when you can
and gratify that need for something new,
and gratify it now because who knows...
tomorrow you might not want it;
tomorrow, you might be dead;
tomorrow, the gods forbid,
the last one might have gone.
