FESTIVE SEASON III

Out there it's a Yorkshire-speciality November day
with a sky skulking in grey,
a wind spitting contempt, and
the hollow-cheeked air
poking boney fingers everywhere, and
on the streets of Leeds
people escape
when they can into a modern
shopping mall bright with
Commercial Christman cheer
and shiny baubles and tiny lights
and a glittering,
sacharine-fake tree
to fend off
the gloom with purchases that
pile up their debts.
Then, laden with bags,
they brace themselves
for another dose of a
Yorkshire-speciality November day,

And getting into the car,
they tick off another
shopping day to Christmas.
Yes, fine or foul,
there's one less day to go.
