THE PLANT

On the windowsill in the room
leaves on the house plant
shine in the sunlight
that comes through the window
leaving its breath outside
and its soil moist with the water
that came from a tap,
leaving its life behind
in the stream.

It grows and flourishes
in the safety of her home,
And there it died
when she was taken away
to live in a home
where the sunlight
streams through the windows,
leaving its breath outside.
